Two rough lesson ideas for this year, mostly for my own reference:
House/Apartment Descriptions
- Discuss vocabulary related to living spaces. Discuss blueprints. Have students (as homework) draw blueprints of their living space.
- Have students present drawings, and discuss the items inside. Make it a competition to see who can talk the longest.
This lesson will hit prepositions (my desk is beside my bed, etc) and adjectives (I have a blue, fuzzy blanket) particularly heavily, but other aspects can be drawn in as well. This will take a few sessions to complete.
Travel Stuff (I have a few ideas, and these all need to eventually find more cohesion and order)
- Have students do a mind-map of what they enjoy about traveling: activities, sights, locations, etc.
- Have students pick countries to research on their own time, from a provided list.
- Have students give a presentation as to why people should visit their country.
- Go over the original mind-maps and have the class discuss where each student should go, now having heard both the students’ preferences and about the different countries.
This lesson will hit geography vocabulary, as well as cultural terms, etc. It’s also good for the students here as Koreans often have a poor concept of the countries in the rest of the world.
